Just as in every country, the traditional roles and ideas of men and women in Russia are changing. It is not uncommon for Russian women to want a family life that falls outside the cultural norm. Many beautiful and intelligent women view mail order relationships as a welcome change from their domestic options.
On the flip side of things, many American men still want to find a wife that would be willing to adhere to traditional gender roles. This of course means that the woman would stay home and raise the children, and the man would be the bread winner. Russian mail order brides are such a huge success because Russian women are seeking American men who will take care of them, provide for them and for their children, and maintain that head of household role.
American women tend to look in the other direction these days when it comes to traditional gender roles, instead focusing on career advancement and independence before settling down in marriage and raising children. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it makes it rather difficult for American men who are searching for a soul mate who wants to settle down now and raise a family. The perfect solution is to look outside of America towards Russian and Ukrainian women who want the same things they do.
