During World War it is believed that American soldiers wrote letters to women by mail for the same purposes. Of course they did it in a more traditional, old-fashioned way as Internet was not available as it is now.
One of the fundamental reasons why men would look at other countries to meet their life-partner is the fact that they fail to meet a suitable partner in their home country. This behavior soon became a trend which was further re-enforced as women gained power in society.
The second important aspect of mail order brides phenomenon is the fact that dating takes place remotely which removes the traditional fear of being rejected as well as provide comfort for both men and women to date in their own time, at their own pace.
Mail order brides usually originate from the lower-income countries such as Russia, Brazil, China, etc. These women look at United States and countries Western Europe to find a husband as these countries are perceived to provide higher standards of living and more security for their future family.
At the same time men from United States, Canada, Australia and UK admire mail order brides for their preserved family values and natural beauty.
